Hello! I am Ms. Sabrina Helm. I am very excited to be teaching at CRMS for the fifth year! My first year in Decatur, I taught science to both the 7th graders here at CRMS as well as two senior classes of Environmental Science at Austin High School. I have also taught science in the Huntsville City School system for a few years before moving to Decatur.
I earned my bachelors degree in Environmental Science with a specialization in Fisheries and Wildlife from Oregon State University. GO BEAVS!
After graduating, I spent 3 years conducting research in Arizona and Idaho on a range of species from giant water bugs to fishing for sturgeon in order to breed more of this endangered species.
After conducting research, I decided to go back to school and earn a degree in Education by completing my Masters at AAMU.
I have won two 3M Grants totaling almost $20,000 for Microscopes and other equipment for the classroom as well as equipment to supply a new Forensics lab. This year, I will be teaching Forensics with Mrs. McBrayer. Stay tuned for more info! This is all new to us at CRMS.
I have presented at the NSTA (National Science Teacher Association) in Atlanta, GA Fall 2012 on how to incorporate technology in to the classroom with $0 budget. I've also attended an EEAA (Environmental Educators Association of Alabama) where I met some amazing Scientists and learned some new things to share with all of you. It was a great experience and I hope to do it again soon!
Teaching has been a true joy and I can't wait to get to know your child this year! Please feel free to contact me via email at Sabrina.Helm@dcs.edu
